Itinerary
Travel notes of the day
Feel free to spend the afternoon walking around the neighbourhood!
Welcome to Goa! A representative awaits your arrival at the airport/ railway station/ bus stop, and will drive you to your hotel. After checking in, you can freshen up, relax, and even catch some z's as the rest of the day is at your leisure.
Call it a day after a hearty, complimentary dinner at the hotel.
Travel notes of the day
- Feni is a type of triple-distilled liquor, distinct to Goa, derived from the ripened cashew fruit and has its roots in the 16th century, when the Portuguese first brought cashew trees to India. The word Feni is believed to have been derived from the Sanskrit word 'Phena', meaning froth. Locals say it is a fantastic remedy for colds and coughs, better even than over-the-counter medicines.
- You can rent a scooter and cruise through the streets of Goa. This is the most preferred (and one of the cheapest!) ways to navigate from one place to the other. Make sure to haggle for the prices. It can range from Rs. 200-500 (higher even, if it's holiday season).
- You can also explore Goa's much-acclaimed, vibrant nightlife. Entry into many of Goa's clubs is free for the ladies, so maybe some club-hopping is in the offing!
Today calls for a tour of a Feni distillery. We drive down after breakfast to learn a little about the methods and processes involved in its making.
Post lunch, you have the day to yourselves. You can head to the beach for some surf and sand, get in a little shopping, discover bits of Goa, whatever it is you want to do. The day is at your leisure.
Travel notes of the day
- Goa Chitra Museum is a heritage, ethnographic museum that exhibits an array of traditional tools, implements and other artefacts, with the aim to preserve the heritage of our ancestors.
- Over 200 years old, Palácio do Deão is a mansion that was built in 1787, by the Portuguese nobleman, Jose Paulo on the banks of the Kushavati river. It boasts of a majestic blend of Hindu and Portuguese style architecture and a lush, green garden that goes (arguably) unmatched in all of Goa.
- The capital of South Goa, Margao is compact albeit packed with shops and market, and people of course!
I hope you're all in high spirits as today calls for a visit to the Paul John Distillery to learn the subtle art of whisky making, here in Goa.
The next stop on today's tour is Quepem, a charming, serene village in South Goa. Here, we visit the Palácio do Deão, an authentic Portuguese style mansion where we enjoy a local, home-cooked meal prepared by the hosts.
After a delicious lunch, we drive around the city of Margao for some shopping and local sightseeing. Here, we get to sample some of Goa's best tea-time snacks and interact with the locals.
On our way back to the hotel, we drop by the Goa Chitra museum, a heritage museum in the village in Benaulim.
