Welcome to the North East, if this is your first trip you will notice that the Assam and Meghalaya borders are just a hop and skip across the divider of the road. I for one cannot wait to leave the plains of Guwahati and head to the autumn skies of Meghalaya. The sight of the green forests , crystal clear streams, thick canopies makes me a impatient but the once the journey begins Its easy to get absorbed in to the many sights and silences along the way !

Did you know Mawlyngbna has 900 residents as of 2019. This is a matrilineal society with wealth and property passed from mother to daughters who also keep the others surname. Known for its cleanliness the waste management system here is organised and upset- something for all of us to learn and implement
Make sure we are up and about early so we make most of the destination we are headed too. Make no mistake there is a lot to learn and appreciate about the community and its initiatives in the area, but this is not that kind of trip ! We are going to explore the best of what nature has to offer in Mawlyngbna.
Today is all about exploring hidden nature. Hikes, Swims, Hidden Waterfalls, Natural winding streams , tropical forest and living amusement parks are todays flavour.

The village has 3 functional double decker living root bridges. The ingenuity of this craft was covered in 2008 by the BBC and other world renowned broadcast channels. The village is separated by 3000 steps from its neighbouring village of Tyrna
Nongriat is one of the few settlements which still does not (thankfully) have a motor able road hence preserving its atmosphere and authenticity. This path leads you to the fairy tale village of Nongriat. Nongriat is home to the double decker living root bridges of the region. Nature has provided in abundance to this fairy tale village, gurgling streams, fresh air, crystal blue pools, green forests with colourful flora and fauna - oh our hearts are full with its beauty.
