The journey from Lucknow to Jaagir lodge is a 4-5 hour journey.
The Dudhwa National Park not only has a diverse wildlife, but also a diverse topography - marshlands, grasslands, dense forest cover, planes and lakes. This region is part of the Terai region, an endangered ecosystem at the foot of the Himalayas. The forest area boasts of Sal trees and a manifold biodiversity, a true paradise for nature enthusiasts and wildlife and bird lovers.
The Jaagir Lodge is a luxury experience at colonial-style lodges in the midst of the forests of the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh. Revel in the luxury of it all. Choose from a range of suites, rooms and villas, with bespoke furnishings, for a lavish but comfortable stay on your holiday in Dudhwa.
Drive through the countryside roads (own arrangement) of the Terai region famed for mango, litchi and sugarcane farms. On arriving at the Jaagir lodge, set at the edge of the Dudhwa National Park, check into your rooms where you can freshen up and relax a while.
Later, soak in the tranquility of the area as you walk around the lodge and acquaint yourself with the vegetation and wildlife of the region.
In the evening, you will be briefed by the local naturalist on the Dudhwa National Park and its wildlife, the activities in store for you the following day, and the additional tours you can choose from to make the most out of your stay.
Enjoy the lovely sunset and a delicious dinner of local delicacies before you head to bed for the night.

Rise and shine! Today calls for a safari at the Dudhwa National Park.
Dudhwa is a biodiversity hotspot and is home to 38 species of mammals, 90 species of fish and around 500 species of birds. It is famed for being the habitat of swamp deer as well as the Indian crocodile, wild elephants and gharials. Being a tiger reserve, it is home to tigers, as well as leopards and rhinos amongst many others.
Great hornbills, grey-headed fish eagles, spot-bellied eagle owls, greater slaty woodpecker and barbets are amongst the few birds you're sure to spot on your adventure. Stay on the lookout for some of the rarer species like the Bengal florican.
The Kishanpur Wildlife sanctuary is home to Terai forests with sal, ficus and crocodile-bark trees, silk cotton trees and a multitude of colourful flowers.
Some of the animals you can spot are tigers, the endangered swamp deer, barking deer, wild boars and hog deer. You can also find crocodiles basking in the sun while ducks swim about in the waters.

We set out early this morning for a Safari to Dudhwa National Park- a highlight of your stay. Drive through the diverse terrain of the National Park, from wet, marshy lands, to grasslands and dense forest patches. Count on the chance of being able to spot the Royal Bengal tiger, leopards, Swamp Deer and the Fishing Cat amongst others. An expert naturalist will accompany you for a full-rounded experience.
The grasslands are home to the one-horned rhino., so keep your eyes peeled! Journey to the waterholes of the marshlands, home to diverse aquatic life and are important breeding grounds for the Indian otters. Spot a wide variety of birds, both common and rare, with the help of your naturalist, as you traverse the terrain.
Head back to the lodge, minds refreshed and enlightened, and enjoy a scrumptious spread for lunch.
After lunch we drive to the Kishanpur Wildlife sanctuary, a part of Dudhwa's Tiger Reserve, for another exciting safari.
Return to the lodge for the night.

The Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is a little over a hundred kilometres from the lodge and holds a variety of lands from marshes and wetlands to grasslands comprising around 400 sq km of land. This Sanctuary is of strategic importance as it serves as a conduit between the tiger habitats of Dudhwa and Kishanpur in India and the Bardia National Park in Nepal.
Today we have an early start as we head to the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary for a full-day excursion.
Here's a glimpse of our day -
- Enjoy a boat ride along the Girwa river and spot gharials in the shallows.
- Other possible sightings include Gangetic dolphins, fresh water turtles, Indian elephants, albino spotted deer, Burmese pythons and white-backed vultures.
- After relaxing a while on the banks, you set out on a land safari with a chance to spot leopards, Bengal tigers, flying squirrels, blue bulls and peafowl
We return to the Jaagir Lodge late afternoon.

The Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is found along the Indo-Nepal border in the Terai region. It is home to four species of deer, antelopes, tigers, Bengal florican, the great Indian hornbill and Terai grey langurs. The forests are composed mainly sal, teak, banyan and mango trees. The bird life is very diverse, with over three hundred species of birds being found.
We rise early and embark on a two hour journey to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve with a naturalist. On arriving, we make a quick stop at the Sharda Sagar Dam where we get to spot a number of birds, both resident and migratory.
We then set out on our safari, during which we learn a little about the past - old forest lodge, canals and bridges from the colonial era.
After a hearty lunch at the forest lodge and some leisure time strolling about, we return to the Jaagir lodge for some dinner and shut-eye.

One of the optional excursions is a full day trip to the Tharu village, a small village on the Indo-Nepal border, a 40 km drive from the Jaagir Lodge. The tribal community here has been living as one with nature for centuries. Besides farming, it is well-known for its hunting skills, music and dance and top-notch craftsmanship. The people are very skilled in catching and training wild elephants.
- Spend the day at a local host's traditional home and get an insight into the traditions and customs of the tribe.
- Watch a cooking demonstration of Tharu meals by the ladies of the tribe.
- Enjoy the authentic Tharu cuisine.
- Chat with the local ladies over a cup of tea.
- Dawdle through the local markets which sell a number of goods from fresh produce to indigenous jewellery and handicrafts.
You can spend today at your leisure. Cycle through farmlands and sugarcane fields, walk the trails of the Sathaniaghat forest or by the water creeks for some bird watching.
You can also choose to engage in some additional optional activities -
Opt for a day's safari to any of the reserves, or a full-day excursion to a Tharu village in the vicinity.
