Travel notes of the day
Today is spent acclimatising yourself to the change in environment in this high-altitude region, as you relax at your hotel and take a leisurely stroll down at the local market and streets of this story book.
You have the chance to stroll around the market , interact with the local community. Take in the tranquil lifestyle and picturesque surroundings hereabouts.
Welcome!
On arriving in Leh, a you will be escorted from the airport to your chosen hotel. After a traditional Ladakhi welcome, you can check into your respective accommodation and get settled .
The rest of the day has no activities in store for you as it is medically mandated that you first get acclimatised to the low oxygen levels at this high-altitude.
After some rest, stroll down the market. Do some window shopping, find curious items of travel and one of the best winter shopping in the country. Do some cafe hopping while you are at it.

Travel notes of the day
The Gurudwara Patthar sahib has a legend. Locals believe a demon who was terrorising the region came face to face with Guru Nanak and hurled a huge boulder toward him. The boulder dint harm Guru Nanak instead ended up with a dent. This was discovered in the early 1970 and is now taken care by the Indian Army.
The Monastery is now home to about 100 monks. The Thangka paintings at the monastery are painted on cotton , silk applique and are more than 800 years old
Begin your day with a sumptuous breakfast. A drive of 50 Kms will take us to the chaotic yet beautiful confluence of the Indus and the Zanskar river. A sight to behold as these epic river's merge with each other at this point, their tide wearing each other's colour and becoming one . After witnessing this beautiful meet, a magic trick awaits. Just like Houdini or David Blaine , watch this magnetic hill pull off an optical illusion which defies the law of gravity. It has to be seen to be believed.
A pit stop at the Gurudwara Patthar Sahib to say your prayers after which we head to the oldest monastery in Leh. Located on the banks of the indus river , the Alchi Monastery, a 11th century monastery, stands at 10,200 ft ASL and houses the oldest paintings in the Leh region. One can feel the aura of the bygone era of the 11th century just by being here .
We will end this eventful day by paying tribute to the soldiers of the Indian Army who laid down their lives while protecting our borders. The memorial also houses some artillery used during the Indo-Pak war

The drive from Leh to Nubra is beautiful. The valley opens up after Pulluwif and the roads get better. We will also cross the quaint village of Khardung before setting foor in Hundar village. We will also come across the spectacular Diskit Monastery enroute Nubra .
We will stop for lunch enroute Nubra.
This is our first night in Nubra. We have 2 more eventful nights to spend here.
After acclimatising and experiencing a little bit of Leh, we take off for Nubra valley. Here, the rugged mountain terrain with the back drop of snow capped peaks await us. A 6 km trail along the grey sand dunes of Hundar will bring us face to face with the two humped bactrian camel. Hitching a ride along the unending landscape of Hundar is nothing short of ecstatic.
The drive from leh to Nubra takes us across the almost highest motorable pass in the world. We say almost as it misses being the world highest motorable pass by a a few feet. Currently Khardungla stands at 5359 Mtrs ( 17,582 ft). After indulging in some photography we descend towards Nubra valley perched at 10,000 ft ASL.
After a day of adventure we come back to our cozy nest in Nubra. Hot food is served in the company of snow capped peaks of the high himalayas. Star lit skies never seen before surprise you as you stare across the myriad constellations.

Travel notes of the day
The majority of people in Turtuk are the direct descendants of Chuli and Yangdrung who are 13th century AD warriors. They have lived in these mountains since time unknown. They mainly comprise people of Tibetan and Dardic descent.
Dardic is a tribe believed to have migrated from Chilas which is now in the neighbouring Pakistan. Turtuk was opened to tourism only in 2010. One can see K2, Mount everest from the top of the village
India's last major settlement in the northern-most part is Turtuk. The village of Turtuk has is the last outpost . It is 2.5 KM from the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. Situated on the banks of Shyok river and habituated by the Balti tribes Turtuk is time travel to the bygone world.
Hear the locals speak the unique Balti language which is a mix of the old Tibetan and Persian languages. Take a guided walk into the village of Turtuk and meet its habitants. The village has a few over 300 house holds with a population of 3000 odd people.
After spending a day in the village with the local folks and walking down the ridges to the end of the village we head back to Nubra.

Travel notes of the day
Panamik is the last village before the Siachen base camp where civilians are allowed.
The Siachen glacier is the worlds highest battle field. It completely depends on the Army of we are able to get permission to visit Siachen . If not we will stop at a place which is 30 kms away from the worlds highest battle ground.
Along the Nubra or Siachen river lie the villages of Sumur, Tirith, Kyagar, Panamik , Turtuk and many more. Today we explore the Sumur village which was a major part of the silk route. Today this village is favourite with hikers and trekkers owing to many natural trails around the village. It is also an important stop for holy souls as it houses the Samstem Ling Gompa which is the most important in the Nubra Valley.
Next on the agenda is Panamik. The village of Panamik is known for its curative natural hot springs which have just the right quantities of sulphur to cure different ailments including rheumatism. Surrounded by snow capped peaks and this green village is a sight you will remember. Panamik is home to Bactrian camels and Pashmina goats ( this is where the world famous Pashmina shawls come from) .
After Panamik we head to Siachen base camp. It depends on the permissions we are able to procure from the India Army. If there is any troop movement we would be stopping at Sasoma which is 30 kms from the base camp. This is the closest one can get to near Siachen glacier.
After an eventful day we head back to the comfort of our nest in the Nubra Valley

Travel notes of the day
The water in the lake changes colour to different shades of blue as the sun sets higher and the day progresses. It is strictly prohibited to swim in the lake !
Enroute Pangong Tso we will spend some time on the sand dunes of Deskit Monastery. We will be driving along the Shyok river and can stop by the Agham village to see prehistoric petroglyphs (rock paintings)
After three amazing days , we leave the valley of Nubra and head to the cross border endorheic ( means no outlet) salt lake of Pangong Tso. This lake shot to fame after it was featured in a popular Bollywood movie - which we are not happy about!
The lake is 604 Sq. km and is partly in India and partly in China. The lake is at an altitude of 14,000 ft and one can literally count the pebbles at the bottom of the lake. Walk along the banks of the lake to reach the village of Spangmik. Its a sight to feel as the sun sets and the chill in the air sets in.
