Itinerary
Travel notes of the day
Today is spent acclimatising yourself to the change in environment in this high-altitude region, as you relax at camp.
You have the chance to stroll around the village of Thiksey and interact with the local community. Take in the tranquil lifestyle and picturesque surroundings hereabouts.
Welcome to the land of the mystic Lamas!
On arriving in Leh, a representative will escort you to your residence at Chamba Camp, Thiksey. After a traditional Ladakhi welcome, you can check into your Luxury tent and get settled in.
The rest of the day has no activities in store for you as it is medically mandated that you first get acclimatised to the low oxygen levels at this high-altitude.
After some rest, meet with the Excursion Specialist at the camp to discuss the itinerary and make slight modifications if required, to better suit your interests.

Travel notes of the day
If you are an early riser, you can join in on an optional bird-watching excursion with a naturalist. Spot a variety of birds, both indigenous and migratory on this early morning adventure.
Another unique optional activity that you can opt for is a visit to the village oracle of the Choglamsar village for a séance.
You can sleep in today, for we have a late start! You have the morning to yourself. Have an unhurried breakfast and enjoy the serene sights in and around the camp. Unwind amidst the willow and poplar trees as you listen to the calming sounds of nature.
If you're game, take a walk through the lush, green fields of Nyerma and get an insight into the age-old wisdom of medicinal herbs, agricultural and religious practices passed on over generations, at the nunnery.
After a delicious lunch at the camp, we set out to the Leh City for a heritage walk. Walk through the complex maze of by-lanes and narrow streets of Leh and uncover the wonders of the city. Stroll through the lanes downtown, where everything from daily necessities and woollen clothing to rugs, handicrafts and accessories can be found.

Rise and shine!
You can opt for an optional trip to the beautiful Wari La pass.
Here's a glimpse of the activity -
- After an early breakfast at the camp, we drive to Wari La pass, the world's fourth highest motorable road. This scenic pass links the two most-travelled valleys in this region of the trans-Himalayas. Get a gorgeous view of the Nubra Pass that spreads out before you, and also spot a number of villages strewn across the Indus valley.
- Enjoy a hot lunch outdoors, in the open air.
- Post-lunch, grab a bicycle and set off down charming tracks that criss-cross along the mountainside. We end our journey at the Shakti village.
Today calls for a really early start. After a quick cup of coffee or chai to do away with the morning blues, we head to the Thiksey monastery, a kilometre away from the camp. The monastery boasts of a two storey tall statue of the Maitreyi Buddha seated on a lotus. Participate in a Buddhist morning prayer ceremony as the sun comes up and take in the fantastic view of the Leh valley that spreads out down below.
After a relaxed breakfast at camp, we drive to the Hemis monastery and museum, a good 45 minutes away from the camp. Built in 1630, this monastery finds itself in a secluded valley on the Western bank of the Indus river and is the largest in Ladakh. It boasts of an impressive collection of Thangkas (Tibetan murals), Tibetan books, statues and stupas. The monastery belongs to the Drukpa branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Get a glimpse of the many features of this monastery where young lamas are nurtured and educated in philosophy, literature, history, yoga and more.
After an insightful experience, return to the camp for lunch.
The rest of the day is at your leisure.
