Travel notes of the day
Today is spent acclimatising yourself to the change in environment in this high-altitude region, as you relax at camp.
You have the chance to stroll around the village of Thiksey and interact with the local community. Take in the tranquil lifestyle and picturesque surroundings hereabouts.
Welcome to the mystic land of the Lamas!
On arriving in Leh, a representative will escort you to your residence at Chamba Camp, Thiksey. After a traditional Ladakhi welcome, you can check into your Luxury tent and get settled in.
The rest of the day has no activities in store for you as it is medically mandated that you first get acclimatised to the low oxygen levels at this high-altitude.
After some rest, meet with the Excursion Specialist at the camp to discuss the itinerary and make slight modifications if required, to better suit your interests.

Travel notes of the day
If you are an early riser, you can join in on an optional bird-watching excursion with a naturalist. Spot a variety of birds, both indigenous and migratory on this early morning adventure.
Another unique optional activity that you can opt for is a rendezvous with the village oracle of the Choglamsar village for a séance.
You can sleep in today, for we have a late start! You have the morning to yourself. Have an unhurried breakfast and enjoy the serene sights in and around the camp. Unwind amidst the willow and poplar trees as you listen to the calming sounds of nature.
If you're game, take a walk through the lush, green fields of Nyerma and get an insight into the age-old wisdom of medicinal herbs, agricultural and religious practices passed on over generations, at the nunnery.
After a delicious lunch at the camp, we set out to the Leh City for a heritage walk. Walk through the complex maze of by-lanes and narrow streets of Leh and uncover the wonders of the city. Stroll through the lanes downtown, where everything from daily necessities and woollen clothing to rugs, handicrafts and accessories can be found.

Today, a journey of spiritual exploration is in the offing. Post breakfast we drive along the Indus river through breathtaking landscapes as we go to the Alchi Monastery.
Built in the 11th century, this monastery appears to have a distinct Kashmiri and Tibetan influence on both its art and architecture. It is believed to have been founded in the 11th century, arguably by Rinchen Zangpo. It boasts of Tibetan and Gandhara style murals that rival even European frescoes. The painting here are good examples of Buddhist art from that period.
We have a delicious picnic lunch amidst the stunning natural beauty before we head back towards the camp.
On the way back from Alchi, we drive past the ruins of the Basgo fort, which has stood witness to important political events in Ladakh. 'Basgo is the local word for 'Cow's head'.
