Join Ecohunters as we take you into the heart of Arunachal Pradesh - THE LAND OF RISING SUN. There are but a few names as alluringly romantic as this state’s name: Arun meaning Sun and Aanchal translates to the free end of a Saree signifying the mountain ranges of the state that experience the first rays of the rising Sun in the east, hence giving it the name Arunachal Pradesh.

Travel notes of the day
Welcome to the North East India !
Our journey today will take us from Guwahati , a bustling urban town at the foothills of eastern Himalayas to a quaint Himalayan village. We would encourage you to stay awake , you are going to love the transition of landscapes on our first road trip on this journey.
PS: Don't miss the forests of Bhutan on your left as you gain altitude towards the Kameng belt of Arunachal Pradesh
We meet and greet at the Guwahati Airport. After our 12 fellow travellers assemble we leave the plains of Guwahati on a 7 hour (approx) drive to the quiet hamlet of Seinthuk. We encourage a snooze while exiting Guwahati so you can be awake to witness the transition from the urban terrain to jungles and tea gardens.
We will reach the village during the golden hour. As you alight the vehicle you will walk into a pleasant change of scenery and awaken as the fresh cool breeze grazes your face. We have a warm fire and a cold local brew waiting for you.

Travel notes of the day
Today we explore our first stop on this journey- Seinthuk.
Seinthuk is a quaint village perched at 7700 ft ( approx). It is one of the villages in the West Kameng district. A population of approx 3000 inhabits this village.
The village is home to the Sherdukpen tribe and is mainly divided into two societal classes - Thong and Chao
Wake up to the slow life at the village, and walk in to a fantasy land as you awaken and step out. The village is located in a narrow valley among orchards and fields with a gurgling stream flowing across the village.
After a leisurely breakfast we will spend the day exploring the village and its surroundings. We will delve in to the life of the locals , their everyday practices and explore he hidden spots in the area. If we are lucky we will witness the local seasonal harvest of apples and kiwis. Let's not forget the river side lunch and a barbecue we have planned for you. Towards the evening we return to our place of stay.
Travel notes of the day
We will be gaining altitude today from 7,700 feet to 13,700 feet at Sela Pass
Tawang has an average elevation of 10,000 feet.
Our drive from Seinthuk to Tawang will bring in a change of weather, altitude and scenery. This epic drive will witness the change of scenery from green foliage to the snow capped Himalayas , yaks, monks and Buddhist flags will dot the road to Tawang.
It will take the entire day for us to reach Tawang, we will reach our destination post sun-set. The days journey calls for an early dinner and a warm bed which await you at your homestay.

- Tawang
Travel notes of the day
We understand the drive of 290 KMs the previous day may have been tedious yet exciting, hence today the driving distance will be at the minimum but not the experience.
Tawang translated to English literally means "Horse Chosen" - We will learn the origin of this name at the 16th Century monastery .
PS: We encourage you to pick up some memorabilia to take back home from the market. You will be supporting the local community.
Once you awake in Tawang you will feel as if you are one with the clouds. The atmosphere is simply mesmerising. After a lazy breakfast we will make our way to Sangetsar Tso , an alpine lake believed to be formed centuries ago by an earthquake.
The lake is located at an altitude of 12,165 feet surrounded by grand snow capped peaks towering above it. The temperature is freezing this time around , a warm cup of coffee and food from the army canteen nearby will keep you humming your tunes. After a bite we will walk around the lake. The Buddhist flags and the surrounding alpine forests lend a mystic aura to this lake.
While the sun is warm we make our way to the 16th century monastery which is also the largest in India. We will hop through the old world narrow lanes, explore the museum and library which holds some of the rarest and valuable scriptures from centuries ago. While here will also learn the origins of the name - Tawang and how it came to be.
Whats a day trip without some yummy food cooked in the kitchen run by monks. We will treat ourselves to some coffee and pizza before we make our way to our place of rest.

Travel notes of the day
Todays day is all about landscapes at the Indo-China border , a hidden water fall and hot water springs to soothe the journey, may be some wine when dipping in the cozy 70* c natural sulphur springs- makes for quite the Instagram reel!
Please note : Only Indian Nationals are permitted here.
A slightly longer day than the previous day , we will start early so lets go !
Our four hour drive towards north of Tawang takes us to the India- China border. . Our first stop is the revered Chumi Gyatse waterfall on the border. We hope to explore this border region and its magical landscape. We will ascend to 15,000 feet and then descent to 11,000 feet to reach this water fall.
We continue towards a nearby border village. One of our favourite experiences in this region is the hot sulphur springs of the Eastern Himalayas. A truly divine experience as these healing waters are a cure for your soul and body. We will indulge in a picnic lunch may be some wine, before heading back to Tawang.

Its a relatively easy day today. Awake at your own pace, after a hearty breakfast we depart for Dirang Valley. Enroute we witness the Jana falls , we stop at the Sela lake at 13,500 feet. Travel notes of the day
The forest houses both deciduous to tropical vegetation hence lending a diverse, enchanting atmosphere to it and the village.
The village is surrounded by rhododendron, oak , pine forests , wild cherry blossom which blooms in November.
If I had the super powers of Dr. Strange , I would make this day into an endless time loop and instead of Dormammu you would have an endless soothing holiday !
Two hours from our homestay in Dirang is a hamlet / village at the fringes of a forest with about 80- households who inhabit this village. The village is surrounded by rhododendron, oak , pine forests , wild cherry blossom which blooms in November. The Monpa community have been the guardians of this land and its fairy tale setting!
We explore the village and its outlines, after some local interaction ,now its time for some tea, but wouldn't it be fun to savour the tea like royalty during the good old days ! We hike to a picture post card picnic setting though charming farmlands, paddy fields and walnut trees to reach a magical clearing through the woods. As this trail unfolds and comes to an end we reach holy lake and sit in silence. Some of us may choose to take a short nap while some may want to meditate and some reminisce about the days gone by.
Before we head by we will stop by the river for some home cooked lunch along with some Ara ( local wine) . Not a bad loop to be stuck in!
