Today is spent acclimatising yourself to the change in environment in this high-altitude region, as you relax at camp.
You have the chance to stroll around the village of Thiksey and interact with the local community. Take in the tranquil lifestyle and picturesque surroundings hereabouts.
Welcome!
On arriving in Leh, a representative will escort you to your residence at Chamba Camp, Thiksey. After a traditional Ladakhi welcome, you can check into your Luxury tent and get settled in.
The rest of the day has no activities in store for you as it is medically mandated that you first get acclimatised to the low oxygen levels at this high-altitude.
After some rest, meet with the Excursion Specialist at the camp to discuss the itinerary and make slight modifications if required, to better suit your interests.

If you are an early riser, you can join in on an optional bird-watching excursion with a naturalist. Spot a variety of birds, both indigenous and migratory on this early morning adventure.
Another unique optional activity that you can opt for is a rendezvous with the village oracle of the Choglamsar village for a séance.
You can sleep in today, for we have a late start! You have the morning to yourself. Have an unhurried breakfast and enjoy the serene sights in and around the camp. Unwind amidst the willow and poplar trees as you listen to the calming sounds of nature.
If you're game, take a walk through the lush, green fields of Nyerma and get an insight into the age-old wisdom of medicinal herbs, agricultural and religious practices passed on over generations, at the nunnery.
After a delicious lunch at the camp, we set out to the Leh City for a heritage walk. Walk through the complex maze of by-lanes and narrow streets of Leh and uncover the wonders of the city. Stroll through the lanes downtown, where everything from daily necessities and woollen clothing to rugs, handicrafts and accessories can be found.
You can shop a little at the city boulevard which is lined with shops that sell Pashmina shawls, stoles, Tibetan handicrafts and silver jewellery and traditional Ladakhi jewellery studded with turquoise, glass, mother of pearl, emerald and jade.
End the day with a spectacular sunset at the Shanti Stupa.

Rise and shine!
You can opt for an optional trip to the beautiful Wari La pass.
Here's a glimpse of the activity -
- After an early breakfast at the camp, we drive to Wari La pass, the world's fourth highest motorable road. This scenic pass links the two most-travelled valleys in this region of the trans-Himalayas. Get a gorgeous view of the Nubra Pass that spreads out before you, and also spot a number of villages strewn across the Indus valley.
- Enjoy a hot lunch outdoors, in the open air.
- Post-lunch, grab a bicycle and set off down charming tracks that criss-cross along the mountainside. We end our journey at the Shakti village.
Today calls for a really early start. After a quick cup of coffee or chai to do away with the morning blues, we head to the Thiksey monastery, a kilometre away from the camp. The monastery boasts of a two storey tall statue of the Maitreyi Buddha seated on a lotus. Participate in a Buddhist morning prayer ceremony as the sun comes up and take in the fantastic view of the Leh valley that spreads out down below.
After a relaxed breakfast at camp, we drive to the Hemis monastery and museum, a good 45 minutes away from the camp. Built in 1630, this monastery finds itself in a secluded valley on the Western bank of the Indus river and is the largest in Ladakh. It boasts of an impressive collection of Thangkas (Tibetan murals), Tibetan books, statues and stupas. The monastery belongs to the Drukpa branch of Tibetan Buddhism. Get a glimpse of the many features of this monastery where young lamas are nurtured and educated in philosophy, literature, history, yoga and more.
After an insightful experience, return to the camp for lunch.

Pack your bags as we move camp to Diskit.
The Chamba Camp, Diskit is a luxury camp with every possible modern comfort to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Breath in the fresh air from your very own private deck, overlooking the clear blue waters of the lake that reflect the lofty mountains and blue skies. Lay back and revel in nature's beauty as the breeze caresses your face and whispers tales untold.
After a hearty breakfast, we pack up and set off for Disket village. The drive to the village is filled with scenic landscapes with mountains and grasslands. We pass through the Khardung La Pass (5570 m.) which is considered to be the highest motorable road in the world. The beautiful Nubra valley spreads out below, with green fields dotted with willow and poplar trees.
We stop at the village of Khardung, for a picnic lunch.
Post lunch we journey on, through the sand dunes of Nubra to Diskit.
We get settled in at the Chamba Camp, Diskit for the night. The rest of the evening is yours.

An optional activity on your visit to the picturesque village of Sumur is a rafting expedition down the rapids of the Shyok river. This mighty river descends to the Nubra valley from the Rimo glaciers in the Karakoram range.
After a delicious breakfast, we drive to the charming village of Sumur, situated along the Nubra river.
Another activity that you can opt for is a visit to the sacred Yarab Tso in the Nubra valley. Drive the northernmost road along the Saichen glacier route and hike a little to find this secluded lake amongst the rocky terrain.
The next activity for the day is a to immerse yourself into the local culture. Meet with the Women’s Alliance of Nubra , a group of women who have collaborated to bring to light traditional performing arts and handicrafts and to document their rich history and heritage.
We then drive through the farmlands of the Sumur village for a visit to a local farm for an authentic, local lunch, sure to leave a smile on you face. Gain some insight into the history of the lands at the house of the Kalon family.
The evening calls for an adventure amidst the sand dunes of the Hunder desert. Ride atop a double hump Bactrian camel and relive the days of yore of the merchants and mercenaries, monks and the common folk, as they ploughed through these very sands in search of Gold, Glory and God and Greatness.
After a long day, head back to Diskit for the night for some well-deserved rest.

On the banks of the Shyok river, the quaint hamlet of Turtuk is dotted with traditional 'nagchung' houses and boasts of untouched beauty with a variety of flora and fauna. The village was once a part of Pakistan until it was reclaimed by India in 1971. This region has the influence of the Balti Muslim culture
Visit some of the mosques, monasteries and minarets in and around the region and meet some of the friendliest locals.
Be sure to enjoy some apricots on your visit, for this village is famous for its apricot trees!
After a packed lunch, head back to the camp, bellies full, for some pampering and repose.
After an eventful few days, you deserve a laid-back day. Spend your time at camp, soaking in the serenity of the surroundings.
If you're game, you have the opportunity to participate in an optional excursion to the charming village of Turtuk.

The drive is scenic, with stunning landscapes.and picturesque villages. Keep your eyes peeled for grazing livestock and their shepherds - spot Pashmina goats and yaks grazing away happily in the green meadows. Feel free to stop and take pictures of the scenery and villages.
Today calls for an early start. After a quick cup of coffee or chai to do away with the morning blues, we head to the Diskit Gompa, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the whole of the Nubra valley. Perched on top of a hill, this monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism. The prayer hall has a statue of the Cho Rinpoche or “the crowned Buddha”, and is decorated with images of deities. An elevated cupola of the monastery has a fresco of the Tashilhunpo monastery of Tibet.
We start the day with a prayer here, near the 100 foot Maitreyi Buddha statue.
We return to the camp for some breakfast before we begin our journey back to Leh Valley. We travel through the Wari La, a pass believed to be the fourth-highest motorable pass in Ladakh.
On reaching the Leh valley, settle into the Chamba Camp in Thiksey and enjoy the rest of the evening unwinding in the comfort of your camp.
